Our cosmetology program incorporates a total of 1500 hours of intensive hands on training. The program is divided into three courses, On the Lot , New Talent and Rising Stars . Upon completion of all three courses you will be prepared to take the Kansas State Board written and practical exam, and enter a new world of opportunity.

Z Hair Academy is a selective school, two pre-enrollment interview are required.

The 1st interview includes a tour of the facilities, a brief overview of policies and procedures, and an opportunity for questions.

The 2nd interview is comparable to a job interview. We want to know more about you, your reasons for entering this industry, and your plans for the future. You must also pass a cognitive skills assessment (basic reading and math) to be considered for acceptance.

Upon completion of all requirements and acceptance into the program, a $150.00 non-refundable enrollment fee is required to hold your space.

Class Schedule

On the Lot - 320 hours

This program is our introduction to the world of cosmetology. The course includes theory and skill building in professional image, communication and in all areas of cosmetology including hair, skin, and nail care. Information is provided through lecture and demonstration. Practical applications will be performed on mannequins, other students and models. A final written and practical exam will be given to measure satisfactory progress.

Course Objectives

• Demonstrate positive relations and a professional attitude.
• Demonstrate the correct procedures of sanitation and infection control.
• Demonstrate the proper methods of draping.
• Perform the Correct procedures for hair services including:
  a. Shampooing and Scalp Treatments
  b. Texture Services (i.e. Perms, Relaxers and Soft Curl)
  c. Hair coloring and lightening
• Demonstrate haircuts using the shears, razor and clipper.
• Demonstrate the ability to style hair using the blow dryer, curling iron and flat iron.
• Perform a basic facial.
• Perform nail services.
• Demonstrate state board applications.
• Continue in the New Talent course
  

  On the Lot Classroom Schedule: Tuesday - Friday 9AM to 5PM.

New Talent - 680 hours

This program provides continuing instruction, in the classroom and Studio floor, in professionalism and communication, hair cutting techniques, chemical hair services, hair design, skin and nail care services. This program also prepares the student to take the Kansas State Board written exam upon completion of 1000 hours. Upon completion of this course, the student is prepared to take the Rising Star course.

Course Objectives

Rising Star - 500 hours

Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be prepared for the Kansas State board practical exam. The student will be able to follow the laws pertaining to the Kansas Board of Cosmetology. In addition, the student will learn the techniques for building a business. Write a resume and practice interviewing skills. The student will have acquired the skills necessary to fulfill a position in the field of cosmetology.
